Born on August 8th, 1996, Jet Smith’s inclination towards creativity emerged early in his life. Throughout his upbringing, he engaged in artistic pursuits, using various media and technologies to explore his imagination. His work often delves into realms beyond conventional reality, subtly reshaping or suggesting familiar forms to evoke a sense of the unknown.

Hailing from Chattanooga, TN, Jet draws inspiration from the city’s scenic environment, appreciating its quiet allure and natural beauty. He has recently drawn inspiration from the nocturnal cityscape, seeking to capture its elusive moods and mysterious atmospheres. In what could be considered an effort to marry two opposing domains, he has also sought to incorporate digital motifs into his work, drawing from his lifelong interest in using computer software as a creative tool.

Jet has exhibited his work in numerous shows and galleries in Chattanooga, chief among those being Area 61 Gallery where he was placed on permanent display and was given his first solo show in February of 2024. Additionally, both he and his close friend and fellow painter, Robert Schoolfield, have co-directed exhibitions where they display their work together, including the “Familiar Strangers” shows of 2021 and 2022, and “Middle Ground” of 2023 which was held at ClearStory Arts. Jet and Robert continue to share ideas and collaborate, always seeking out new artistic potential.
